Pinch (Sun April 7 - SonarLab stage) - Aside from his recent collaboration with Adrian Sherwood Pinch also has his own label Tectonic and you can catch one of his own heavy bass sets at SonarLab.

agraph (Sat April 6 - SonarLab stage) - Lama member, Denki Groove live collaborator and solo artist in his own right graph takes time out of an incredibly busy schedule to cuts loose at SonarLab. ,

Nisennenmondai (Sun April 7 - SonarClub stage) - Just prior to stepping off on their third 3rd European tour hear's a chance to catch new material from their upcoming recordings. Heavily named checked in both Japan and abroad the new set is not to be missed.

Soichiro Tanaka (Sun April 7 - SonarLab stage) - Sadly missed seminal Japanese music magazine head editor and Snoozer Club Nights head honcho lets loose on his own.

DJ Nobu (Sun April 7 - SonarLab stage) - Future Terror's DJ Nobu is a Tokyo dance floor favourite.

DJ Sarasa (Sat April 6 - SonarLab stage) - Just back from her third US tour and national El Da Sensei X DJ Sarasa AKA Silverboombox hit's the pool.

Madegg (Sat April 6 - SonarLab stage) - Previewing material from his upcoming second Day Tripper Records album, Kiko amazing second album, 20 year old Kyoto track-maker Madegg is definitely onto watch.


We're also very pleased to announce an exclusive preview of the film, Karl Hyde's The Outer Edges. Directed by Keran Evans and in support of Karl's first solo album, Edgelands, The Outer Edges is a unique glimpse into a very different London from the one that you thought you know. This will be screened in SonarComplex on both Sat April 6 and Sun April 7.

SonarSound Tokyo 2013 will be held over the course of 2 days from April 6th (Sat) to 7th (Sun), 2013. Once again this year promises to be a rich and and diverse festival of music and art including a line-up of some of the most essential artists in the electronic music scene from both within Japan and abroad.

SonarSound Tokyo 2013 is delighted to reveal our 3rd and penultimate line-up announcement.

Also we are very excited to announce Japan’s very first “A Taste of Sonar” in Osaka.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the most recent additions to the line-up for SonarSound 2013 which include LFO, Shiro Takatani, John Talabot, Toe. In total there are 16 amazing new acts that have been added to the bill. For full details please see below.

Once again SonarDome is curated by the Red Bull Music Academy and as we have come to expect lives up to their usual high standards with another cutting edge ground-breaking selection of new artists that is not to be missed.


LFO
Building his reputation on any number of BLEEP HOUSE classics in early 90’s, LFO aka Mark Bell, along with Warp stable mates, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher and Autechre, are among the most important artists to emerge from the UK electronic music scene in recent history. LFO’s last outing in Japan was the closing set at Maukuhari Messe for Warp 20 vs Electraglide where he played to in excess of 13,500 ecstatic fans. He has also worked on albums and / or live shows with Björk and Depeche Mode and this visit sees the debut of his first audio-visual live set here with a brutal electronic sound, hardest of beats and a massive LED screen.

Shiro Takatani : CHROMA
CHROMA is total visual director Shiro Takatani’s new live performance project. It includes Takatani together with Takuya Minami, Marihiko Hara, Ken Furudate and featuring Simon Fisher Turner. Shiro Takatani, well known as a member of internationally highly regarded legendary artist group called “Dumb Type”, has been producing video installations since the 90’s. Highly regarded for his solo output as well as collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Rei Harakami and many others. Recently he has been collaborating with Simon Fisher Turner who joins him with a song in his latest work, CHROMA (2012). Sónarsound Tokyo 2013 has a world first allowing you to see CHROMA in this wider live version for the first time.

John Talabot
Barcelona based John Talabot’s debut solo album ƒIN was one of the most important club music albums to be released last year. It was highly rated in end of year Best of 2012 album charts around the world including Pitchfork, XLR8R, FACT, Resident Advisor, NME, Phonica to name but a few. Most recently he has been touring as special guest on The XX European tour and now finally Japanese club music fans will get their chance to see what everyone’s talking about.

Toe
Japanese postrock / mathrock band Toe has taken instrumental rock to whole new level of acceptance in Japan. Starting out in Tokyo’s underground live houses they have constantly increased their fanbase and last year performed on the highly prestigious GREEN STAGE at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL 2012 and also in September completed their first European tour.

Submerse
Hailing from Cheshire, UK, Submerse is an esteemed producer/DJ with a distinct sound that traverses Beat Music, Ambient, 2-step and Autonomic whilst being punctuated by a myriad of unique influences. The past year has seen him at his most prolific, releasing tracks & remixes with R&S sister label Apollo Records, Project: Mooncircle and many more. Submerse was recently named 'Band Of The Week' In UK’s Guardian newspaper and opened for Clark and Lapalux on their last Japanese tour.

Green Butter (Mabanua + Budamunk)
Green Butter is a unit formed by up and coming Japanese beatmaker Budamunk and drummer / multi-instrumentalist, Mabanua. Their sound is a highly concentrated groove focused on sensitive low textures of sound and as they describe it themselves - a mad relax space.

Saphire Slows
Saphire Slows is a young Japanese female artist who released her first album from US indie label Not Not Fun. Her unique sound, often described as experimental and ambient, blends her highly original voice in a truly sensual world. Saphire Slows recently toured America with Peaking Lights、LA Vampires and she also toured between Japan and South Korea with Ital、Mi Ami、Magic Touch as part of the (100%) Silk tour.

Tofubeats
tofubeats has been spreading massive amounts of songs via the internet over the past year while also working on remixes for many major and indie artists. “Mercury feat. Minister of Onomatopee” and ”Even inside a dream feat. ERA” have both topped the main Japanese iTunes chart in the past few months.

Last year you couldn’t get in to the SonarDome without quite a wait due to the great popularity that it enjoyed and once again expect the best this year with another cutting edge selection of what’s to come.

The line-up includes artists from around the world who are tipped for the biggest and best, this year selected from the cream of the crop of the graduates from the Red Bull Music Academy.
Confirmed artists include Japan’s Akiko Kiyama、Daisuke Tanabe、Hiroaki OBA、sauce81、Yosi Horikawa; UK’s psychedelic moody and heavy Ninja Tune’s music producer ILLUM SPHERE, London based electronic music producer OM Unit, xxxy, and Kidsuke with a very special collaboration Kidkanevil featuring Daisuke Tanabe teaming up with Kidanevil. The highly competitive Red Bull Music Academy has chosen these winning acts from among 4,000 applicant sworldwide so please come along and enjoy the frontier music of the Red Bull Music Academy. Final line-up will be announced in late March.

Added Osaka dates !!!　“A Taste of Sonar in Osaka”

It’s not fair that Tokyo gets all the fun so we have decided to let Kansai music fans have a chance to enjoy the Sonar flavour and are hoping that in the not to distant future we can present the complete SonarSound experience there. As a lead up to this we have decided to present the best and boldest of SST 2103 with two great nights in two great venues with A Taste of Sonar. A Taste of Sonar is a Sonar satellite event and has so far been held in London. This is a first time it will be held in Japan and allows anyone who can’t make it to Tokyo to experience the Sonar DNA.

Day1 includes Nicolas Jaar, Sherwood & Pinch, Actress and some of the Japanese artists who have already appeared at SonarSound Tokyo in the past.

Day2 sees Underworld’s Karl Hyde and his hand-picked band previewing material from his debut solo album Edgeland with special guests, Darkstar and Altz.

Sonar Sound Tokyo is very excited to make our second line-up announcement which includes line-up information for both days. Also please note that tickets are now on sale. No stranger to Japan or Sonar Sound Tokyo, Karl Hyde and Darren Price gave up their services at very short notice in support of the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake performing as the Underworld DJs for Sonar Sound Tokyo 2011. Karl Hyde, together with a group of hand picked musicians, is now embarking on a series of solo shows to perform some of his new songs as well as rediscovered and reworked gems from the Underworld vaults. Highly respected young German artist, dj, producer and label owner, Boys Noize will be letting loose with a very special dj set. Boys Noize has just released his long-awaited third album “Out of the Black” which has been receiving rave reviews everywhere. His production and remixes for artists as diverse as Daftpunk, Chilli Gonzales, Depeche Mode, David Lynch, Santa Gold and so many others are thrashed across dancefloors worldwide and his appearances at electronic stadium events and festivals in US and Europe are proving to be something not to be missed.

Nicolas Jaar, who last weekend made his debut here with a hugely successful solo set at Womb will be performing in Japan for the first time with his full live band. The 23-year-old who has topped polls everywhere has garnered much praise for his edgy singles and first album, “Space Is Only Noise”. He has the rare distinction of being was selected number one in Resident Advisor’s “Top 20 live acts in the World” consecutively for the past two years.

We are very close to finalizing the line-ups for “SonarDôme,” “SonarLab,” and “SonarComplex” so look out for a lot more information about these in our next announcement. Over the past 20 years Sonar has established itself as the foremost electronic music, art and technology festival in the world. SonarSound Tokyo 2012 saw the likes of Squarepusher, The Cinematic Orchestra, Vincent Gallo, Clark, Mount Kimbie, Global Communication, Ryoichi Kurokawa, Ao Inoue and many more artists.

SonarSound Tokyo has fully established its reputation as a truly unique event with enthusiastic crowds and glowing reviews from both fans and media alike. We are very pleased to announce that the 2013 edition will once again run on April 6th and 7th. The 20th anniversary of Sonar will be a global celebration which begins in Reykjavik in February and culminates in Barcelona in June, passing through Cape Town, Tokyo and São Paulo within the next six months, Sonar will be programming around 300 shows spread across 21 stages at its 5 festivals. In 2013, the Icelandic capital, one of the world's most musically fertile cities, joins the four destinations of 2012.

Today, the festival introduces the first artists for the celebrations at Sonar Barcelona, which include Kraftwerk and Pet Shop Boys, two classic names in full force and with an transgenerational influence on the popular music of recent decades, from purist electronica, to dance music and pop.

The 20th anniversary of Sonar Barcelona will take place on the 13th, 14th and 15th June 2013.

The stand-out feature of the line-up preview is the extraordinary new show in 3D by Kraftwerk. The prestigious German group  was founded in 1970 and has been one of the most influential outfits in the music of the last 40 years, in electronica and in popular music in general. Their eight studio albums are more than classics - they are true anthems in recent music history. For their performance at Sonar 2013, Kraftwerk will be reviewing their hits with a unique and updated sound at SonarClub, the festival's main stage. Their new show adapts 3D technology to their own language and gives body and volume to the powerful imagery that has accompanied them throughout their career. The show can be enjoyed with standard 3D glasses.

Another unquestionable benchmark - in this case in the field of electronic pop - is the British duo Pet Shop Boys. After the recent release of their latest album "Elysium”, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, who began working together in the early ‘80s, will be presenting a new show featuring visuals and technological content at Sonar Barcelona. The creators of countless legendary songs of our era, including “West End Girls”, “Domino Dancing”, “It's A Sin”, “Always On My Mind”, “Go West”, “Being Boring”, “Domino Dancing”, “Flamboyant” and “New York City Boy”, Pet Shop Boys have always been a step ahead of their peers, shrewdly navigating the currents of electronic pop and dance music, while maintaining an admirable and carefully balanced critical and commercial success.

The Northern Ireland trio Two Door Cinema Club is another of the great attractions in the line-up of Sonar 2013. During their live show, the band will be reviewing their two albums released to date, which have made them one of today's most powerful and vigorous producers of electropop hits, with tracks like “What you know”, “Undercover Martyn” and “Something Good Can Work”.

Within Sonar's 100% dance territory, this year's highlights include the live show from Hot Natured, the energetic collective of DJs and producers led by the already essential Jamie Jones, the new king Midas of underground house, and the special collaboration between Lindstrom & Todd Terje, Norwegian producers who combine luminous electronica and nu-disco. Another name on the up, Fantastic Mr Fox, will be deploying his unique vision of R&B on an abstract and at the same time danceable tip.

Among the sonic explorers, the festival presents Vatican Shadow, the project who rediscovers industrial techno by the American producer Dominick Fernow.

In the Spanish artists section, we have a couple of very special guests, Bradien + Eduard Escoffet, the combination of the Barcelona-based instrumental group and the poet Eduard Escoffet presenting their new album 'Pols' live.

The festival is travelling to Iceland for the first time for Sonar Reykjavik, which will take place on 15 and 16 February at Harpa, the city's brand new concert and conference centre, located by the sea, near the port.

For its first Nordic trip, Sonar will be adopting a small-scale and intimate format. The event begins at 6pm and continues until 3am on each day. The line-up will include around 15 international artists and 30 from Iceland, who will be playing on 4 stages with capacities ranging between 200 and 1,600 spectators each.

The building that will host the first Sonar Reykjavik is the home of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and The Icelandic Opera, and was designed by Henning Larsen Architects in collaboration with the renowned artist Olafur Eliasson.

Sonar returns to Africa in 2013. Sonar @ Design Indaba in Cape Town (South Africa) takes place on the 1st of March at the City Hall. This second time around, the festival once again presents international figures and some of the most prominent names on the emerging South African electronic scene.

Sonar is once again working with Design Indaba, the major multidisciplinary platform that transforms the South African city into the world's capital of creativity and innovation. Every year, the event features the presence of the world's most important entrepreneurs and speakers, who present projects in the fields of architecture, design, film and music, among others.

The 6th SonarSound Tokyo will take place on 6 and 7 April. The Asian version of Sonar will have a highly experimental line-up that combines major international artists and the most outstanding representatives of the Japanese electronic scene. As in previous years, more than 30 shows at SonarSound Tokyo will be distributed over two days between the four stages at ageHa Studio Coast, a complex located in the restored industrial district of eastern Tokyo, in the Kōtō neighbourhood.

The second Sonar São Paulo, the festival's Latin American experience and the largest of all the events organized by Sonar outside Barcelona, takes place on 24 and 25 May 2013, featuring a line-up of more than 30 artists, which will be announced in early 2013.

Sonar São Paulo includes all the ingredients that have made Sonar international benchmark: a broad-based musical and audiovisual programme of high quality that mixes entertainment and the cutting edge in leading urban venues.

The festival will take place in the iconic Parque Anhembi from 8pm to 6:30am. As at its Barcelona prototype, performances by new talents will dovetail with large-format shows and audiovisual productions by key names on the international electronic scene, on 3 stages with uninterrupted programming.
